Error number: 0x8024D007/also cannot open subinacl.msi file

Hello,

I recently had to cleanup my computer and remove some malware. My system is
running dramatically better now, but I cannot get any Windows Updates. After
it goes through the process of downloading and installing updated software, I
get the following error code: Error number: 0x8024D007.

I emailed tech support but I run into a problem of not being able to open
the subinacl.msi file that they recommend I run. When I click on any .msi
file, I get the error that "Windows cannot open file." I have received a
reply from Tech Support to download this file, but have not had reponses back
when I tell them I cannot open it.

So now I have 2 problems, I cannot get Windows Updates and cannot open .msi
files. I have Windows XP (SP2). Any suggestions/support?
