installation updates failed without error code after upgrading to XP

hi. i've updated my computer from 2000 Pro to XP Pro with SP2.
afterwards i went to microsoft to get all updates available. the
updates dowloaded (84 of them) but they all failed installation
without any error codes. also, there is nothing in my update history
that have the updates as failed (no red 'X' to click on). i'm tech
savvy to a point and i have searched this forum but haven't found a
similar situation after an upgrade. can anyone help?

Reboot

Now try to install your updates.


Also a free prog. called "dial-a-fix", will sort out your download prob.and
some
others if you need,.....

Reboot into safe mºde (F-8)

Click the green checkmark and click Go.

After it has finished,

Reboot

Can you go to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updates
