RE: kb936181
Thank-you for your help but that did not work. I turned off auto update. and
when I went to uninstall KB936181 it was not there. So I assumed that I was
good to go in manually installing it. I did so and got the following message:
"Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file
location exists and is writeable." What does that mean and what else can I do
to fix this? Also, the updates also tell me to update Office XP Service Pack
3. When I did that it was almost done and then it said that the file I needed
was on a disk to insert it...this apparently happened when I tried following
someone elses suggestions. Please help! Thanks!

RE: kb936181
I have this very same problem.
I have uninstalled the "KB936181 Update" and the "MSMXL 4.0 SP2", then I
downloaded both files and tried to install them manually. the MSMXL 4.0 SP@
installs without any problem, but when I try to manually install the KB936181
Update, I get the massage I too get the error message: "Error opening
installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and
is writable."

RE: kb936181
I had the same problem, too! It installed nine times and wouldn't manually
install. So I am hiding it in the updates list. On occasion, I had an
update that wouldn't download properly and hid it. When I returned months
later, the update downloaded properly. I suppose it had the opportunity to
properly mature, like a fine cheese. lol
