Error code 8004100A

Windows has been automatically trying to updpate my computer with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 service pack 1 and .Net Framework 3.5 Family update (kb951847)x86. It fails to complete the installation and gives me the error code 8004100A.
Can anyone tell me in language I would understand what this means, how important it is and what, if anything I can do about it?
