Certificate Errors in IE7

I'm running IE7 on a vista system. Periodically I run into the situation
where a certificate generates the message "There is a problem with this
website's security certificate." I am unable to continue at this point. On
my XP system, I'd see an option on the page "Continue to this website (not
recommended)". This option is not available on my vista system. Anyone know
why that option is not available in IE7 on my vista box?

I don't have this issue with Firefox. I'm able to make my online purchases
without issue using that browser.

I've even saw the problem at this link when I was goggling this issue:

changed the protocol to plain http, the page displayed. Oddly enough, if I
navigate to this site now, the error doesn't appear - the connection
automatically changes from https to http and the page is displayed. This is
the case for both IE7 and Firefox.

I start IE7 from my quick launch tool bar and I've tried running it as an
administrator.

I have a work around for this problem - I use FF when I can't complete an
online transaction in IE. But that raises concerns. I like the fact that IE7
is being careful with online security, but FF handles these sites just fine.
Does that mean that IE has clamped down too strongly or is FF being too
loose in what it allows? Does FF have a better algorithm when handling
certificate anomalies or is IE doing a better job of keeping users safe?

Same problem here. Have to use Firefox to do online purchases and sign in
with WIndows Live ID (even at Microsoft's own website!)

Grrrrrrr...

I never would have considered using Firefox before, but out of necessity, I
have to. I much prefer to stick with IE7 but it is impossible given that I
can't surf to some sites.

I think I figured out how to turn off the checks. I never did figure out how
to get the notification message to display the option to continue.

Internet Options -> Advanced. Scroll to the security group and uncheck the
following items:

Check for publisher's certificate revocation
Check for server certificate revocation
