IE7+ Protected Mode switched on but not on

Ok weird one here, got vista ultimate running, installed live onecare so
hopefully pretty secure, however even though its says that protected mode is
switched on in the settings from within IE7 on the status bar at the bottom
its says that protected mode is off.

Is UAC turned off? It must be on for Protected Mode.

No I had turned it off. Thanks for the reply, its one of the things i had
suspected may have caused it.
