Malware protection not recognising symantec norton internet securi

I have vista home premium and suddenly it has decided that i do not have
malware protection despite that it has been fine for months. I haven't
changed anything. Also Vista prompts me to continue an action that i haven't
started, which is disabling my firewall. When i click cancel it prompts me to
continue a symantec action. What is happening and how do i fix it?

What do the prompts actually say?

Doesn't your Norton have its own Firewall....and therefore it is disabling
the Vista firewall
