Security Center reports Windows firewall and Norton Antivirus both turned on
On Windows Vista Home Basic I am using Norton Antivirus 2007.

In Security Center under firewall it reports that Windows firewall and
Norton Antivirus are both turned on.

The thing is Norton AV does not have a firewall. Are the two programs
conflicting? Should I turn off

Windows firewall?

Re: Security Center reports Windows firewall and Norton Antivirus both turned on
Norton AV checks things that come in for viruses.
Windows Firewall prevents things from coming into your machine.
They are complimentary. Leave them both on.

You probably do not want two anti-virus programs running at the same time,
but that is not the case here.

My sincere commiserations

That is normal. The WINDOWS FIREWALL IS ON - Good.

The NORTON AV is ON as well - Good but you may wish to consider getting rid
of Norton, ask for a refund and look for an (free) alternative.

No, they don't. One is an Av applicationd the other is a (so called)
Firewall application.

No, definitely don't!

Actually, some versions of Norton Antivirus do have a firewall component
called "Internet Worm Protection". The OP's post is ambiguous; I can't
tell if he means that Security Center is reporting two firewalls or not.
If this is what is really happening, the OP should choose between
Norton's Internet Worm Protection and the Windows Firewall and not run
both of them.

Otherwise, the OP should come back and clarify the situation by
reporting the exact text of the message from Windows Security Center.

The Security Center is reporting two firewalls one is Windows firewall and
the other is Norton AV.
The exact message is as follows under the firewall tab,
"Windows firewall and Norton Antivirus both report that they are turned on."

Thank you for the clarification. It would have been helpful to know the
version of Norton Antivirus but I suspect it is something like Norton
Antivirus 2006 which does indeed have "Internet Worm Protection". The
Security Center is correct - turn off Windows Firewall and use Norton's
or vice versa. If your version of NAV is earlier than 2006, it's time to
replace it with a current version antivirus. I don't recommend any
Norton products and suggest you use a better, less bloated/invasive av
such as NOD32, Kaspersky, or even Avast if you want a free one.

Sorry I missed it. I guess I fail at being perfect. ;-)

Doesn't change the answer I already gave you.

Re: Security Center reports Windows firewall and Norton Antivirus
I can tell from the context what OP means, but what do the letters stand for?
Is it Operating Procedure, Obnoxious Person, Obese Patient, Online Poster,
or what?
