John,
The most common reason for the spooler to crash is when there are installed
drivers which aren't Vista compatible. There are other messages here
describing how to remove drivers when your spooler won't start. I'd suggest
you remove all of the printer drivers, then download all the Vista versions
of the drivers you need & install them.
