Cannot Set Printer Preference To Black And White/window Explorer Stops Working!

Every time I try to set my printer preference to "print color images in black and white" I get the message "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING"
I sure hope somebody can help me with this, as I am using up my color ribbon ink like crazy. I CANNOT PRINT ANYTHING IN BLACK AND WHITE!
