I had a talk with one of the principle devs on the Windows Fax & Scan (WFS)
yesterday. It turns out that TWAIN is being depricated in favor of Windows
Image Aquisition (WIA) and WIA 2. Here's the gist of what will work:
Older TWAIN applications will continue to work with TWAIN drivers on Vista.
These TWAIN apps should also work with WIA 1 & 2 drivers due to a
compatibility layer in Vista.
Any application developed using WIA and WIA 2 will only work with WIA 1 & 2
drivers, but will not see or use devices that have TWAIN drivers. WFS is a
WIA 2 application, and thus it does not see anything installed with TWAIN.
Some manufacturers have multiple drivers available for particular devices,
so check thier web sites for updates.
