Epson 960 drivers for 64bit windows
Hello all,

I am getting a new computer and I want to use it with my Epson 960 printer.
I want to get a 64bit computer with either XP pro x64 or Vista 64bit. Does
either of these OS have a driver? And if so, how complete is the driver? Is
it a full functioning driver? I want to be able to print at all the advanced
photo settings and Print on CDs.

Thanks,
--
John

Check out the Epson website:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...supDetail.jsp?
BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=18403&infoType=Downloads

You may have to copy/paste the two lines into one in your browser
address box for that URL to work.

That page shows a 64 bit software

Epson EasyPrint v3.10A

Windows Vista 64-bit Edition compatible, Windows Vista 32-bit Edition
compatible, Windows XP, Windows XP 64-bit Edition, Windows 2000,
Windows Me, Windows 98
easyprint - .1KB - posted on 12/21/06

but doesn't seem to show a driver beyond XP which may mean that there
is one Out of the Box with VISTA. I can't find any help on that on
their website.

From the description that Easyprint does seem to contain controls for
printing that are in many printer drivers.

Are you really sure you want to install VISTA 64? What software have
you to take advantage of it, I wonder? Is all of your hardware 64-bit
compatible?

Re: Epson 960 drivers for 64bit windows
I know. Easy print is compatable with 64 bit. But no drivers. I don't know
why Epson would do that. Maybe if we complain enough Epson will give in
and make a driver. I really need to know if Vista 64 bit has drivers for the
printer and are they full featured drivers. I hate that Microsoft puts out
driver that are not full featured drivers. I need to be able to print to CDs
and be able to use all the hi res printing features or this printer is
useless to me.

Re: Epson 960 drivers for 64bit windows
Oh, to answer your other question all I am going to use on this computer is
the Adobe Software Suite. Adobe Premiere pro, Adobe Photoshop, and the
others. Maybe one or two other graphics apps in the feature. That's it. My
brother is convincing me to get Vista 64 bit over regular XP x64. I know I
want 64 bit do to addressing more than 8GB of RAM. Already I am planing to
get 4GB of RAM to start. I know this is getting off topic but I was
wondering if 4 dimms are better than 2 dimms and how much better performance?

I keep being told that is up to the hardware source -- Epson in this
case -- and not Microsoft .....

It might be better but if you can't use your hardware .....

I don't think any of the applications you mention are 64bit yet are they?

You might be better off with a hardware system that will handle 64 bit -- CPU
etc -- and install XP or VISTA in 32 bit form for now. Then upgrade to VISTA
64 bit when the world catches up.

I can't help on the memory thing -- I believe it depends on the rest of the
hardware whether you need pairs of memory or not, whether it makes a
difference.

Re: Epson 960 drivers for 64bit windows
I don't know if the Adobe apps are 64bit? If not then I will go with 32 bit
for now? If I read correctly the Dual core Xeon has 4 pips/channels or
whatever they call it for the memory path. I do know getting 8 chips over 2
(same amount and speed) is a lot more expensive.

My guess is that they are not but they have a Forum where you could
ask. I picked up background on Postscript Fonts there the other day,
thanks to Google.

You might get general advice on the best combination there before you
commit yourself -- I take it you will be buying a new PC, so you can
explore more than just the application.

Another point I've seen brought up in the Compuserve PCHardware Forum
where there is a specialist in benchmarks is that VISTA 64 can be
slower than VISTA 32.

Check out http://community.compuserve.com/pchardware -- you don't have
to be a member any more to access Compuserve; just log in with an AIM
name and a password if you want to post or maybe also if you want to
search.

You can ask there about memory.
