not possible to set a default printer

Hello,
my pre-installed Windows Vista Ultimate (from DELL) is not able to set a
default printer at all.
Not even the XPS Document printer can be set as default printer.

Any idea from anybody?

Any help highly welcome...

To be honest, I did not check with them yet.
After quite some experiences with computer support hotlines I don`t expect a
solution.
The answer in my case would be: use the system re-install function, when it
is not solved then, please call again.
This of course would be the very last solution.

So what exactly happens when you attempt to make a printer the default? I'm
assuming that you opened Printers then right clicking on your printer,
slected Set as Default Printer.

I do it exactly that way you described, but nothing happens, really nothing,
not even a flicker or something else.
I am assuming this is related to some rights (better missing rights)
somewhere but not clue where.

Well, if you're logged in as administrator then I'm not sure what might be
wrong. You might check your error log to see if there is anything there
that will help. Hopefully somebody else will come up with a solution.
