Can't install a printer...
Looking for a little help here, actually, ALOT OF HELP!

I have two(2) computers,

one(1) laptop;

Dell XPS M1710, (less than 10 months old) &

One(1) desktop;

Dell XPS 630i, (Brand new).

Both are running MS Vista.

They are both connected to a broadband internet connection from Cox
Communications via a modem/router I have had for three(3) years now;

Motorola SBG1000.

I have NEVER had any issues with this modem and the six(6) other computers
which have utilized this connection point in that same three year time frame.

The problem I am having is getting the two new computers to see & connect to
my printer;

HP Business Inkjet 2230, connected directly to the modem/router via a
biodirectional cable.

As stated previously, I have not had any problems with the "other" computers
which all were running several different forms of software. I could connect
to the printer with each and every one of them.

My question is,

Why is it sooo hard to get this simple task to work AND what do I have to do
to make it work?

Buying a new modem, router, & printer, is out of the question.

Help!

Thank You for your time,

Chris Lane

The user manual states that you can configure the device for LPR printing.

Re: Can't install a printer...
Thank you Tom,

I had the computers set up for LPR printing, but there were a couple of
things I hadn't realized, (ID 10 T).

The problem now is that when you send something to print, it doesn't.

When I open the print jobs window, it shows the status as, "Printing -
spooling", but nothing prints.

I let this go for over an hour, a couple of times. When I "Cancel All
Documents", the printer then starts running through paper, nothing printed on
it, untill the paper tray is empty. I have to cancel the job on the printer
to make it stop and the printer never does reset itself.

I checked the Printer Spooler service under "Administrative Tools", to make
sure the startup type is set to automatic and the service status is started.

I believe everything regarding the print server is set correctly, but I
can't figure out why I can't get things to print.

Thanks again for the help, first person that has even tried. Vista doesn't
seem that bad after all.

Chris
