Where is Get Picture from Scanner?

I've been using Vista for about 36 hours - so far, so good. BUT I have a
portable scanner that I use to scan items that will not be edited with OCR.
I used to use back in the XP day "My Pictures" "Get Picture from Scanner or
Camera." It was so easy to organize folders. Now, I've installed my
scanner, its drivers, and it's working. TWAIN is OK, but I have to use the
software that came with the scanner, which I don't like. I tried Photo
Gallery, but I'm getting an error message that I can't set up a profile
(scanner appears in hardware list). Any thoughts? Thx!
