real and virtual printers
Last week, I got a new Dell XPS for home, running Vista Home Premium. My
relatively new HP all in one 31800 doesn't have a Vista specific driver
yet. Loading the barebones one downloaded from HP provides some but not
all functionality. My old but reliable HP 4L required a parallel/USB
converter to work but I'm not sure I've got the correct driver for the
converter. After a brief flurry of emails, I was told to call Belkin.
My programs are all 'vintage'; they do what I need them to do so I'm not
ready to replace or upgrade them yet.
Problem 1: Paintshop Pro v. 9 and 10 don't show a drop down menu from
which to select a printer. They only show the system default one. Has
anyone else seen this? Does anyone know of a workaround?
Problem 2: Adobe Acrobat Distiller v. 5 installs but one component, the
pdf writer module (a scaled down version), doesn't. Attempts to send a
document to Distiller from Word 2002, WordPerfect 10, or any other
program causes an error in Distiller's print queue and sometimes causes
the originating program to freeze. Short of purchasing a newer version
of Distiller or a less expensive shareware program, is there anything I
can do?
Let me know if I should post this question in a different newsgroup.
