Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
Interesting...

I tried to connect to the SBS:
\\Servername
and now I get the message that I have no right to do that - and that I need
to contact a "Fax administrator" even though I have administrative rights.

But this is Vista. Are you running as an administrator?

Yes, I belong to the Domain group "Administrators"

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
I kept trying to connect to the server, and at one point it accepted!!

It seems to be that there were some network problems, but this seems strange
to me since everything else including Remote Desktop to the server worked.

So, Susan's idea works, however the whole process is not straightforward and
inconsistent and I think that Microsoft did not do the best job here...

Thanks for your help!!

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
That's not what I asked. This is Vista, not XP. You are not running as an
administrator just because you belong to an administrator group. Launch the
Fax program as an administrator (R click the icon).

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
I also did what you asked - start the Fax wizard specifically as
"Administrator".
Same result.
However, see my earlier post - I managed to solve the problem more or less
by accident.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
Here is what the fax developers recommended: use \\servername in the text
box for remote server. That should work. No need to put the trailing “\fax”.
How did you get around the lack of rights problem? Did you get the same
error message even when you ran as an administrator? What was the exact
content of the error message?

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
I had same problem, and there are no specific posts in the KB... been messing
with it off and on for more than a week now and happened to stumble on this.
I'm normally a fan of MS products but this just seems like sloppy coding...
what is the point of UNC if it's not used consistently? Just didn't want you
all to think this fellow was the only one having the problem...

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax
One more issue: even though I have "configured" the fax on vista, it still
hits me with a windows fax and scan prompt to "first create a fax account"...
the server fax is already there, and it won't let me add another, and it
won't let me add a local, because i don't have a local modem installed...
very annoying to have to click ok each time. Suggestions?
