Thank you for your tip. Initially I tried to locate the control for
the print spooler, but you have pointed it out.
The problem turned out not to be power management. The print spooler
just needs a kick to start emptying itself. I have now the print
spooler window in the task bar. After a document is sent to the
printer, the print spooler "Restart" needs to be clicked; the document
will print. Apparently there is only one print spooler for more than
one printer. This "Restart" works for the networked printer as well
as the USB printer.
Hopefully the next update of the print spooler software will eliminate
the need for "Restart".
