By referring to the term scanning that you mentioned earlier, I assume that you are trying to scan images into your computer. Well, here is how, and this works for me. But I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, I hope it works for you as well. Basically, all you need to do is click the start icon then click all programs then click on Windows Photo Gallery. After all those, Click on File and then Click Import from Scanner or Camera. Click Import afterwards. And click scan. There you go. Enjoy.
