1. Finally the driver for my MFC-8820D is available for my Vista PC
bought at the beginning of March. It works OK after installing it
last month. However I had thrown away the original Brother CD as I
thought it was totally useless for Vista. Later I found I need
Paperport to work on my old scanned files in .max format (from
PaperPort).
2. In desperation, I loaded the Paperport from Brother MFC Software
Suite for Brother MFC-9700/9800. While I am able to use the old max
files now, I am annoyed by the popup of "Brother MFL pro Control
Center" upon restart of my Vista PC, i.e.,
Unable to access one or more required INI files:
C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\PopUp\SmartUI.ini
C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\PopUp\BScanner.ini
Unable to load Brother MFL pro Control Center. Try reinstalling from
your CD.
3. These two files are there, but at least some of the lines are off,
for example:
Inside C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\PopUp\BScanner.ini
[MFP]
' Overall name of the MFC (used only for display purposes)
Name=Brother MFC-9700/9800
' Printer driver name
PrinterDevice=Brother MFC9700
' TWAIN device name
ScannerDevice=TWAIN_32 Brother MFLPro Color
' Resource Manager .exe name
ResourceManager=Brmfrsmg.exe
and inside C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\PopUp\SmartUI.ini
[ScanTab]
tbFolderName="C:\ScanSoft Documents" ,Disable
4. I wonder whether I should just try to rename MFC9700 to MFC8820D
and rename C:\ScanSoft Documents (XP default) to C:\Users\myname
\Documents\ScanSoft Documents (Vista default)
5. This query was sent to Brother's support. They decided to ignore
it.
These are my wild guesses. Any advice will be appreciated. Of cause
if needed I just need to live with the annoyance.
