Hi Drew:

Thanks for your message. It's very helpful.

I still have some questions. Maybe you can help me again.

Does Vista recognize all 4 Gb memory?

Does it work with photoshop cs3, coreldraw x4, finale, adobe audition
cs3, macromedia suite, and software like this?

Re: Speed problem with Intel Q6600 (Quad Core) and Ultimate 64-Bit
I know that Vista 64 will recognize all that memory and more...Your
motherboard supports 8 gigs of memory so yes you are good there...I would
assume it will work with all those programs as well but to be certain I
would definitely check there respective websites.. Also possible peruse
there forums for any possible bugs that there might be and ways you can get
around any you might have... Sorry I was probably not all the help you
need.. I wish you best of luck .. Enjoy that system as I have greatly
enjoyed mine !!

I have a Q6600, IP35-E, 8800GT-1GB and 6GB of ram, vista runs well on my
config.
pretty sure its a driver/bios problem like what the others have said
earlier, is your installer from MS or a downloaded copy ?

Re: Speed problem with Intel Q6600 (Quad Core) and Ultimate 64-Bit
Hi,

2GB of ram is fine for x64 though the chief reason many use for installing
it is to use more than 4GB. How much you should have depends largely on your
use of the system. Gamers frequently find 4GB to be a sweet spot, and users
of autocad and video editing software can often take advantage of more. Keep
in mind though that memory at addresses above the 4GB mark cannot be used by
32 bit applications, so unless yours are designed to take advantage of x64
there's not much point to installing more than that amount.

That said, wait until after you install x64 to add the additional memory
(and it's a clean install, there is no upgrade path from 32 to 64 bit). The
reason being that there is a timing issue when all 4 ram slots are in use
during an x64 setup (it's not the amount of ram, but rather the number of
installed sticks that is the problem). Once installed, the timing is no
longer a problem.

Re: Speed problem with Intel Q6600 (Quad Core) and Ultimate 64-Bit

I have the Q6600 and didn't even realise it was 64bit!

however now i know i want to upgrade, preferably doing a dual boot so i
can keep my 32 bit version "in case".

however i read here that a full and clean install is required.

do you think there would be any issues?

I have a P5N-e SLI motherboard with 4GB RAM and 2x 8600GS

Re: Speed problem with Intel Q6600 (Quad Core) and Ultimate 64-Bit

Systemax N2000 Gaming PC - Intel Core2 Quad Q6600-G0 stepping OC'd to 3
ghz / genuine Windows Vista Home Premium X64 / NVIDIA nForce 680iLT SLI
/ 8GB DDR2-800 PC6400 / 250GB SATA / DVDRW / Dual NVIDIA 8600GT 512MB in
SLI mode / Gigabit LAN / 600W / 24 inch SCEPTER monitor (1920 x 1200) as
this allows true dual view (thinking about a second Scepter monitor and
dual BFG GeForce 9800 GT - 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link
DVI, HDTV, VGA Support in SLI mode. This system runs clean quiet and
very fast.(Crysis has no issues and Portals whiles away the hours) The
only issue at this time is a true 64 bit browser (minefield comes to
mind ) but no x64 bit flash player supported yet....so we muck along in
the mud when we could be flying...All hail the great ADOBE corporation
for the stellar x64 bit support.

Ram is rarely high and cpu's rarely exceed 50% utilization while core
temps average 45C-55C under average loads (I will be going to liquid
cooling soom) Please browse a book called "OVERCLOCKING YOUR CPU TO THE
EXTREME" and find out if you have the Go stepping on you processor (It
makes a difference so you don't overclock your ram if you don't want to
(Tweek each device separately recommended)
Good luck with this issue. There is no issue created by MAN that can't
be corrected ty users working to gether. The only looser is the person
who will not try.

In answer to the origional post Vista x64 with 4+ gb ram is very well
behaived with just a little work.
