peculiar problem

Vista seems to be always losing my monitor specific settings, and reverting
to generic. Is there something I can do to correct that?
I am using a Samsung syncmaster 753 df crt monitor, if thats any help. And
it won't let me increase refresh rate beyond 60 without giving me an out of
synch black screen at reboot, or sooner.

I have updated the chipset drivers for my motherboard (includes vidoeo set),
WHICH IS Inter 82945g Express Chipset. Computer is Gateway GT 5408. Intel
webiste seems to have a more recent update for this chipset but its an .exe
file and when I click on it it says I must get my updates from computer
manufacturer. Is this, in fact the update I need?
