Volume structure corrupt
I have a new Dell laptop with Vista pre-installed. When backing up with
Retrospect Express I get the error message "error -1123 (volume structure
corrupt)". If I try to check the disk for errors (without fixing) it runs
for a few seconds, scanning about 50,000 files, then says "1 large file
records processed" and quits, with the green bar only 1/4 way across its
container. If I try to schedule a disk check at startup, I never see any
evidence that it happens. Chkntfs says the disk is dirty. I don't know what
that means, but I saw some references to it on this newsgroup.

The computer is working, but there is obviously a problem and none of the
tools I have can solve it. What should I do?

Rich

Re: Volume structure corrupt
I would work with Dell support on this. I have seen numerous Vista errors
caused by imaging problems by OEMs. There may be other problems lurking on
your system that you haven't discovered yet. Of the customers I've worked
with, they all ended up reinstalling (with the assistance of their OEM) and
that fixed the problem.
