Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete, Computer Restarts Continuously

Yesterday, I used Avanquest System Suite 9, Recovery Commander to go
back to a checkpoint date of 3/27/2010 to see if I could recover some
internet explorer history after it was deleted on 3/31/2010 after I
reset internet explorer settings which Belkin had me do since I was
having problems connecting to my router, anyway, my wireless connection
only got straightened out by me after I deleted my old network and
created a new one etc...which is not an issue here-this is just how it
all started.

Well, when I was through seeing if I could retrieve my internet explorer
history last night (proved unsuccessful) by going back to the Recovery
Commander Checkpoint date of 3/27/2010, I decided to go back to the
recovery commander Undo Checkpoint of 4/02/2010 which is what I created
before I went to the 3/27/2010 checkpoint. My laptop computer restarted,
and when it did, I saw Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete and
it restarted continuously and has been doing that ever since. I was,
however, able to keep it from restarting by clicking, Repair Your
Computer and making my way over to the recovery console options and
clicking the Shut Down Button, but that's the only way I could keep my
computer from restarting.

Just so you know, I have tried all of the F8 options and it does the
same thing-keeps restarting and shows Configuring Updates: Stage 3 of 3
0% Complete and then shuts down and restarts. (The only thing that is
left is Command Prompt under Recovery Console options after clicking
Repair Your Computer). I have no System Restore points because I turned
off System Restore several weeks ago-now I wish I hadn't because I would
be able to use that option under the Recovery Console options if I
hadn't done that. I did try the System Restore option just in case it
might be on, but, it says "No system restore points have been created on
your disc." or something like that with a Red X.

I would like to disable Windows Updates through Command Prompt, but I
don't know how. I believe if I could disable Windows Updates through
Command Prompt, it would start up all the way and not show the
Configuring Updates: Stage 3 0f 3 0% Complete. I believe my Windows
Updates was up to date on 4/02/2010 before I went to the Recovery
Commander Checkpoint date of 3/27/2010, but it was only when I was going
back to the future Recovery Commander Checkpoint date of 4/02/2010 that
it restarted continuously and showed Configuring Updates: Stage 3 0f 3
0% Complete.

I have a Gateway Laptop, Model M-6324 (Out Of Warranty), Vista Home
Premium 32 bit, Service Pack 2. And, I am using a friend's laptop to
post this thread.

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista and
Windows 7
