Windows Explorer shuts down when I try to open folder on my desktop

Windows Explorer shuts down and restarts when I attempt to open what I
will refer to as my main folder on my desk top.

Have tried a few solutions from this and other forums and problem still
persists. I haven't tried shutting down shell extensions and reopening
one by one yet. Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I'm getting
frustrated.

Is it just this folder or does it happen with all folders?

If just this folder, then the problem lies with the contents of the folder
and selectively removing items would be the steps I would take.

If it is all folders, then looking a shell extensions is the proper course
of action.
