File DVD Loading Very Slow

Vista Ultimate SP1 with all recommended updates.

Occasionally, Explorer seems to go into a loop when I load a DL DVD and start drilling down into the
directory structure. It looks like it is trying to scan the entire DVD.

Is this a known problem and is there a patch or workaround for it?

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and I always have problems viewing
DVDs in Explorer be they single or dual layer. What I do is open
optical drives using Free Commander. It
seems to be able to navigate the discs with no issues.

Plus it's freeware.
A google should turn it up for you.
