try to make a new folder?

whenever i right click on my desktop to make a new folder the box
freezes. the computer still runs fine though, just a big gray box is on
top of all the windows. the only way i found to get rid of it is to log
off, the back on. any advice?

It sounds like something has damaged your right-click menu. You might want
to try this fix from MVP Ronnie Vernon.

Copy the text between the dashed lines (not the dashed lines) and paste them
into Notepad. Save the file as New.reg and place it on the Desktop.
Double-click the file and answer the prompts to Merge the file to the
registry.

This should restore that right click menu option.
