Right sidebar on desktop

How is the sidebar that keeps popping up on the right hand side of the
desktop gotten rid of? It covers the icons I use on that side which, unlike
in XP, will not stay where I place them.

If you just want to turn off Windows Sidebar, then this will show you
how to.

You can also have the Sidebar open on the left side of the screen if
youl like to. See the screenshot under step 4 in the link above to
select that option.
