Update error code:80070026

I cant install/use windows update i get code 80070026 un known error in
Windows update. What can i do? Its to late to use a system restore point, i
havent noticed that windows update havent worked for 2 mounth.
I have uninstalled AVG8 turned of the service win defender and
turned off the win firewall. It still tells me 80070026. The last update that
was installed was wuclient 7.2.6001.784 after that all updates exept for win
defender has failed. PN

Similar problem here, except the error code is 80070424. In reading the
"windowsupdate.log"
I see that on 9/18/08 the "WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX-control for
AMD64-7.0.6000.381" failed with the above error code. I too can update
Defender, but not the windows update. Have a tech at Microsoft working on
the problem.
