absolutely. change the power options.
do not turn off the hard drive. this is likely what is causing your
'freeze'.
avoid sleep and especially hibernation.
Let your display go blank if you're not at the machine for a couple minutes,
and if you're away for more than a couple hours, turn it off.
I am not MS, but did do tech support for a couple of companies.
