svchost.exe using 1 gb

im not sure if this is the right place for this or not but here goes i
have an svchost.exe and its usig over 1gb and when i end it nothing
happens. user name is system right now its using 115,000k host process
for window services is the discription. What is this ??

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?

I'm seeing a very similar thing. Right now, svchost is taking 1.2GIG of
memory. I'm running process explorer, so, I know which services this
instance is responsible for. I've gone through the services @ black
viper and disabled the ones that could be, but, memory usage remains
high. While googling, I see a lot of people complaining about high
memory usage, but, there are no answers.
