Search Problem

Just downloaded Search 4.0 and my VISTA with SP1 still won't search contents
of .wps folders. Have reindexed and checked to do file contents. Even saved
one of the files to the currents Works Word Processor on the puter and it
doesn't search that file either. What is going on here!? Can someone please
help?

Through the years, I have tried and used all the competing desktop search
programs. I am not aware of any that can specifically search "Works" WPS
files. Doesn't Works have the option to save files as DOC files? If yes,
do that as the built in Microsoft filters will then fully search your file
contents.

Actually, the most important documents it won't search are the .rtf. All my
documents were created using Works or Word. The .rtf and .wps blocks are both
checked in the indexing list. This Vista won't search any of the document
contents except .pdf. I emailed one to my daughter, and her Vista system
searches it with no problem. We're wondering if I installed a Word program on
the computer if it might then recognize them. I currently only have the Works
that came with it. I just don't know what to think.

Hi meerkat. Wordpad will open .rtf files, not sure about wps.

I can open my files with no problem, I just don't have a search engine that
will search the contents unless I open each document. No matter which one I
try, seems like it just can't recognize the contents of these files.
I've been meerkat since sometime back in the 90s and was thrilled when they
came out with the Meerkat Manor programs. Happy to share the name, meerkat.
