problem with RAM
hi all

i am looking at getting a 2 gig ram upgrade (to 4 gig) but ive been told
that with vista it only regcognises max 2gig is this true?

No. If you're using the 32-bit version, you are limited by your
motherboard's
allocation of memory to peripherals, video, BIOS, etc. My motherboard
sees 3.5 GB RAM. The other .5 GB is used by the PCI slots, video, etc.
Some motherboards limit the OS to 2 GB when in 32-bit mode. If
you're using the 64-bit version and have at least 4 GB on the motherboard,
the OS will see and use it all.

I have 4gig and my MB is a asus p4b which allows the OS to see 3.2 and the
other .8 is used for video, per, etc etc. As stated it depends on the MB.

A 32bit OS, including XP and Vista 32 bit, can see and use up to 4 GB of
RAM. Some RAM is used by hardware, the specific amount depends on the
motherboard and BIOS. So the OS will see less than the 4GB but all 4GB is
being used.
