Re: Vista 32 bit and 8gig ram
8gb is totally wasted in 32-bit which can't see more than approx 3.5 out of
4gigs max.

RE: Vista 32 bit and 8gig ram
the problem is mathematical, 2 ** 32 is around 4 gabigabytes.
2 ** 64 is umm, bigger.

i still think there is an upper 'usable' bound, though.
for some reason 16G pops into my head, but i could be making it up...
maybe stuff on the motherboard will start melting?

when the price comes down some, i'm going to get a Solid State Hard Drive
and install the system software in there. it's probably not as fast a memory
access, but it's better than thrashing the disk heads all around the place.

RE: Vista 32 bit and 8gig ram
i think both flavors (32 and 64 bit) come on the same cd/dvd disk.
maybe your installer forced it to install 32 bit to save themselves the pain
everyone used to have with 64 bit since everyone was late with their drivers.

at the risk of dooming myself, everything is working ok on mine.
even made a few virtual machines so when i screw one up, i can get back to
'clean slate' very easily.
