boot loop

I recently shut down my gateway laptop so that the updates would install.
Upon restarting the computer it gets to the configuring updates part of the
boot up, briefly shows login in then automatically re-boots. It is stuck in
this re-boot loop. Will not let me do a system restore saying the computer
doesn't have any restore points. Only option left is factory restore. Any
other options before I try wiping it all out?

when the system gets to the screen for configuring updates try to do a
bad shut down.
Try to go into safe mode with networking. And then run the following
update:
'Download details: Update for Windows Vista (KB937287)'
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en)

Also try to disable any anti virus. Because windows update may be
trying to remove the update done by the anti virus.
