Program Stop Responding

Lately a couple of my programs, especially Windows Mail, stops responding
but
seems to return to normal after few seconds. Vista seems not to give the
program
much time before it declares that the program has stopped responding. Is
there setting
to increase the time before Vista notifies me of an unresponsive program?
Or, Maybe
Vista can tell after just a few seconds that the program has stopped
responding?
