DVD burner Does not show, does not go..................

I have a TS-L632D Tosibatan DVD burner on my Vista Home basic. It often does
not appear when I select the Computer icon and when it does it often hangs
up during formatting and if it does appear formatted and ready then "burn"
function does not work
