Non Responding Program

When I delete or rename any file or empty the recycle bin I get the following
message in a new (small) window. This is what occurred when I deleted a file
from the desktop:
Calculating time remaining . . .
From: Desktop (Desktop)
Time remaining: Calculating . . .
Items remaining: 1 (544KB)
Speed: 0 bytes/sec

This window will not go away even if I click Cancel.
When I close the non responding program using the task manager the file has
been deleted.
Do I need to repair Windows Vista?? Or what to do??
