Defrag on Vista hangs

I notice that everytime defrag is running, my laptop hangs.
Defrag started on scheduled task, but everytime it is running, after several
minutes, my computer hangs. I cant move my mouse, nor anything else, nor
CTL+ALT+DEL... Pls advise...

Try the following:

Empty your internet explorer cache
Set IE cache size to 100 megs
Run Disk Cleanup (check all categories)
Run Check Disk / Auto-fix errors (requires reboot)
Try Defrag again.

Maybe your drive is on it's way out, or the file system is corrupted.
-Run drive diagnostics with the manufacturer's diagnostic software. You
ought to be able to download it for free from their website probably.
-As the poster above suggested, run chkdsk/f once to completion.
-Run disk cleanup with ccleaner.
-if possible, run a anti-virus/malware scan once just to be on the safe
side.

-Try defragging again.

If you still are not successful, try defragging with a trusted
defragmenter like Diskeeper. You can download free trial versions off
the diskeeper website.

If you are still not able to defrag, then something is really wrong :/
