WinSAT - low Memory Index
I have an Asus P5N32-E SLI board running a Q6600 quad CPU and 2GB of DDR-2
memory. Until recently I had 667MHz Ballistix running at 5-3-3-15 (2T) and
got a poor low memory WinSAT score of 5.1.
This seems low because on another PC with an MSI motherboard (Intel chipset)
I get a memory index=5.9 even running cheaper generic brand 667MHz memory.
So I bit the bullet and upgraded the memory on the Asus board. It is now
running 800MHz DDR-2 Ballistix memory at 4-4-4-12 (2T) and it STILL gives a
WinSAT memory index of only 5.1.
So what gives? Is the WinSAT WEI index fatally flawed? Or is there a
bandwidth problem with the NVidia 680SLI chipset used on this board? The PC
does seem snappier in Vista now with the 800MHz but surely the benchmark
should reflect this?
