Vista Premium -- Icons move to left side of screen

I have a new Dell laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. Since I started
using it, the desktop icons move to the left side of the screen every time
the computer wakes up from sleep mode, or restart.

I have tried playing around with personalization but no results.
Is Vista really a waste of time? Can I ever find an icon where I had
previously placed it?

Help please.

right click on the desktop, under view, uncheck auto arrange.

I have unchecked align to grid, and auto arrange. No results. If the computer
goes on sleep mode, hibernation or if I restart it, the resolution I had
previously set is lost. So I am constantly resetting the resolution and
organizing my icons.

I thought it could be something with the graphic driver, but I have done all
the updates.
