what is the maximum RAM for vista x-86

hello i got a toshiba A 200 OS: win vista business x86 with:
- 4 GB ram
- 1 GB vga ATI Radeon HD 2600
when i check my display settings it says :
-Total available graphics memory: 1535 MB
-Dedicated video memory: 256 MB
-System video memory: 0 MB
-Shared system memory: 1279 MB

-) When i check the task manager it says i am using ~ 1 GB which is
around 30% of ram in the normal settings ( no heavy applications only
messenger and IE or Mozilla )

=) Also the welcome center in vista says i have only 3.00 GB of RAM but
infact i have 4 GB physical memory.

How can we explain -) and i=) ? thx

All 32-bit versions of Windows (XP as well as Vista), even though they
have a 4GB address space, can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM. That's
because some of that space is used by hardware and not available to
the operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies,
depending on what hardware you have installed, but is usually around
3.1GB.

Re: what is the maximum RAM for vista x-86

Actually from your setup, I see that your video card is sharing the
memory of your system. So:

- - 4 GB ram
- 1 GB vga ATI Radeon HD 2600
when i check my display settings it says :
-Total available graphics memory: 1535 MB
-Dedicated video memory: 256 MB
-System video memory: 0 MB
-Shared system memory: 1279 MB- ***This amount is subtracted from your
system memory So if you have 4GB - 1,279 = (around) 3.0GB give or take a
few.**

*Now what is stated above is also true, 32-bit can only address so much
of your RAM. But if I am right, your video is sharing with your system
RAM.

Hope this helps

1279+256=1535. The above poster is right. The card has 256 megs of mem, and
it uses 1279 megs of system mem.
