RAM help.. where did it go?
Hello all! I am a newbie here, and I have been reading through post and have
not found an answer to my problem..

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook with Vista Home. I am trying to install
a game for my daughter that requires 1024 mb RAM. Please tell me if I need to
buy MORE memory or if I can do something that won't include breaking open the
piggy bank!
HERE IS THE INFO:

Re: RAM help.. where did it go?
I would get online support from Dell on this issue. it seems to me you may
have a faulty memory module as this PC should have 1022Mb RAM installed as
standard, and as per the Dell website, should run Vista and even Aero!

Re: RAM help.. where did it go?
Most notebooks use part of the system memory for video display, so yeah that
readout looks like it's probably right. No, there's no solution other than
either buying more RAM or not installing the game for your daughter.

Re: RAM help.. where did it go?
It looks like a call to Dell may help but I think your problem is that
you are using ram to supplememnt the video card memory. And YES you do
need one more gig of ram for a total of two gig of ram. That should
get your laptop thru the next several years without too much problem.

Re: RAM help.. where did it go?
Try the game it may just work fine in your system. Many applications will
say they need a system with 1024MB of memory when what the application will
run in any system that has more the 512MB or 756MB.

The missing RAM has probably been allocated to the video card. Mine, when
new, came with 1 Gig RAM but only reported 893 as the rest was allocated to
the video card.

Memory is not particularly expensive now, I just ditched the 2 512Meg sticks
that came with mine and replaced them with 2 1Gig sticks, a huge performance
increase.
