explorer.exe problem at logging off

When logging off the following note appears: "explorer.exe This program is
preventing you from logging off. The instruction at 0x02290f90 referenced
memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to
terminate the program." When I do that, I can log off (well, it's really my
daughter's account only that does this so far).

Why is this happening and how can it be remedied? I've looked elsewhere and
found no clues to solving it. Thanks!

Have you got any anti-virus software like norton if you do then change the
settings so it doesnt scan for anything before shutting down
