Vista updates

Hi all,
With Windows XP, updates were in folders labeled in blue in the Windows
directory. These folders could be deleted as long as one didn't ever want
to uninstall the updates.

How does this work in Vista? Are the updates stored somewhere else? If so,
can they be deleted? Or does Vista delete these automatically after the
updates are complete?

Vista keeps a backup of all the files replaced when updates are
installed for stability and compatibility reasons, one location is
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. I think they are only deleted when
superseded by later updates or when windows believes they are no longer
required. Im not sure if or when they are deleted.
