For anyone getting a Blue Screen when trying to Rip or Burn a CD/DVD

I found that even if you download and install your motherboard drivers after
installing Vista, they don't replace the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Extract
the drivers to a folder, open the control panel, expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI
controllers. Start from the last controller on the list, right click and
choose "Update Driver Software...", then "Browse my computer for driver
software". On this window choose "Let me pick from a list..." then Have disk
if the driver is not list and browse to where you extracted the drivers. I
have an Nforce 4 board and had to install the drivers for the last 3 in the
list (don't reboot until you update all 3 drivers) when Windows starts back
up it will reinstall your hard drives and CD/DVD drives and will need to
reboot one more time. Done!

I'm using an NForce 4 board and the stock drivers that Vista installed work
great. I found in the past ( as did many other users) that the stock drivers
( In XP) were actually faster and less trouble prone than the Nvidia IDE
drivers. The Forums at places like http://www.guru3d.com/ and
http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/index.php are full of stories about
corrupted drives and lost data using the NForce IDE drivers. In your case
apparently they were needed to solve a problem but unless there's a problem
with something using the Vista supplied drivers I would not install them.

The only drivers I changed is the ATA/ATAPI controllers. With Vista, the
list showed I had 9 controllers, when in fact I only have 3: one for the
serial ATA and 2 for PATA.
