Run menu gone and vid card drivers?
Is there anyway I can get my hidden devices in device manager showing again?
I remember there was a command line script to do it but I don't know how to
get to a command line in vista? Also what was that script? And one more
thing....is there a way to uninstall old video card drivers? I don't want
to just install new ones over the old ones. Seems sloppy. Any takers?

What about a right-click in the Device Manager... "show hidden devices"...

Several video card manufacturers offer as download special uninstall
software.

I usually boot via F8 into VGA mode (or even Safe Mode) after
installing a new video card - and install the new driver... then
normal reboot.

Use the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES environment variable, then open
device manager and select 'show hidden devices'.

Ok got ya. Where is the command line? And aren't you supposed to UNINSTALL
OLD DRIVERS before installing new ones?

the search bar underneath the new start menu also functions as a simple
command line. If you need the full command line environment, probably the
fastest way is to type CMD into this search menu and hit enter.

Re: Run menu gone and vid card drivers?
Read the documentation for the drivers. Some driver updates automatically remove the old version as part of the installation process, some simply update the old drivers, and some require the user to uninstall the old drivers.

Hi, Choice Jumper.

> I don't know how to get to a command line in vista?

Same as with WinXP. Several ways, in fact. Here are a few:

1. Click Start | Run. (If Run does not appear on your Start menu, you can
right-click Start | Properties | Customize to add it.)

2. Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt. (You might
want to right-click this and Pin it to your Start menu and/or add it to your
Quick Launch. If you use it much, you also might like to customize its
colors, size, etc. You also can assign it a Hotkey so that you can open it
with a key combination.)

3. In Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Windows\System32 and click on cmd.exe.

Re: Run menu gone and vid card drivers?
It doesn't appear to work this way in the final product.
When I open the start menu and type 'cmd', I get a list of search results
and NOT the command prompt. Likewise if I try notepad or anything else. I
have deselected FIVE different 'search' options in the start menu properties
and I can't get this thing to go away.
