In-computer speakers - shorting out

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with in-computer speakers. They have
always worked fine until today, when the speakers short out for no apparent
reason. I have always made it a point to not play music too loud so as not to
blow out the speakers, and the laptop is in new condition. Any ideas on what
is wrong? After spending $1400 on a new laptop, this is ruining my music
experience.
