xbox360 extender connects, MSN disconnects

Hi all:
I just connected my pc to an xbox 360 using the add an extender program
in "tasks". It connected up fine and I can use my xbox to access all the
media stuff on my tv just fine. The problems is, if I have MSN (56k)
connected to the internet, the xbox 360 can't connect to the pc. In Network
& Sharing it shows that I have two networks, one with only MSN for internet
access and one "unidentified network which has my 2 pcs and the xbox
connected. I didn't set up the MSN network and the xbox was automatically
made part of the "unidentified network". I'm not sure why the xbox360 and
my pcs aren't all together on one network? I see there is an option to Merge
Networks but can't find any info that tells me if that is what I need to do.
The extender software set my "unidentified network" as a private network
automatically, I think. The MSN network is set a Public, also set
automatically, I think. I was using my MCE2005 pc with the xbox 360 but
currently am waiting for a replacement motherboard for that and I could
access MSN from the living room to download guide updates without any
problems. I'm sure this is some improvement to protect me but it sure has me
buffaloed! What should my network settings be and how do I fix what is
supposed to be automatic?

so you have one pc on dialup to MSN and a local network connected
together how? you will have to bridge the connections on the host
pc.

My network consists of a Vista PC, 2 MCE2005 PC's and the xbox 360.
They are connected by ethernet cables to a Linsky 4 port switch box. Each
computer has a 56k modem and usually connect directly to the internet when
needed. I seldom use the network to access the internet except when
installing a new operating system. The 2 MCE2005 PC's are used to serve
media content to tvs and the Vista is my main computer but is currently being
used to extend media content to my living room tv due to a motherboard
problem with the MCE2005 that usually is used. Originally the network was
set up with the disabled MCE2005 PC as the main internet connection and the
other MCE2005 was set for "connects to the internet thru another PC". I then
added the Vista PC to the network and it auto-configured the network
connection. It started out with two networks: MSN Internet and
"unidentified network" which had all 3 pcs and the xbox360 on it. Both
networks were auto-configured as Public networks. I then changed the
"unidentified network" to "Private" to share all files between my computers
more easily. All was working ok until the motherboard problem on the MCE2005
pc necessitated the switch to my Vista PC to extend media content to my L.R.
TV. The MCE2005 PC that is out of service is the one that originally was set
as "other pcs connect thru this PC". At this point I don't know what steps
to take to give the Vista PC, a MCE2005 PC and the xbox360 access to the
internet thru the network (as well as connecting directly with their own
modems) and allow me to update the guide thru the xbox 360 as I often did
when it was an extender from the MCE2005 pc. Do I "merge" the two networks
in network sharing or start over from scratch with new network settings?
I think I have things messed up currently, because when I extended the
Vista PC to the xbox 360 thru "Tasks>add an extender" I had problems getting
the code from the xbox360. It said it couldn't find the network. I selected
"continue" on the xbox360 anyway and it gave me the connection code and I
entered in Vista and the two connected up and it is working, sort
of..........except for the failure to connect when MSN is connected or when I
try to get guide downloads from the xbox360. I'm stumped lol!

--type in--
ncpa.cpl [enter]

select the dialup connection and the LAN connection by holding down
the ctrl key and clicking on each to highlight them
right click and then select BRIDGE

Hello again:
The LAN connection is set to private. The MSN internet connection is set
to public. Following your instructions and highlighting both, I found no
selection for "bridge". Tried highlighting both and then right clicking but
no "bridge" is offered. Changed MSN connection to public and same result.
Should the MSN connection be set to pvt or public and how do I find "bridge"?
I've seen that offered in the past on my MCE2005 pc but don't see it on
Vista?

The host pc was originally the pc that isn't working right now. Do I need
to make the Vista PC the host somehow?

MSN should be set to public

Hi again lol:
Network & Sharing Center shows: "This computer====multiple
networks===Internet". Double-clicking Multiple networks shows this PC, the
unbroken MCE2005 PC and the xbox360. I'm beginning to think I'm taking too
much of your time. I'm sorry. I'll be going back to the MCE2005 PC to
connect to the xbox360 in the living room as soon as Intel sends me the
replacement m-board. Maybe we should just give up attempting this and I'll
just make do with the limited use I have. I can make it all work nicely with
MCE2005 by just following network help instructions.

OK, on the machine that is not working, either unbridge the
connections or power it down for now.

YES, make the Vista machine the host.
Dialup with MSN (public network) with the local LAN set to private.

Follow the instructions I posted below to bridge.
