MVP's were are you on this one

I have posted this question several times with no takers.

I am trying to establish a connection to my web server in http, with add new
network connection, it will only accept an address in ftp.
Is there a reason why i cannot input an http address.

With XP in was in my network places, but the ability has been removed in
Vista.

I have manage to establish a network connect with my web server by "add
Network Location", but with Vista I can only find an ftp:// way of uploading
to my web server with add a network:

My web site requires to be uploaded with HTTP uploading protocol with FPSE,
but when I Specify the location of my website following the on screen
prompts, it will not allow me to input an http address, below are the
examples given from the wizard during the add network location process

It gives examples:
1. \\server\share (Share folder)
2. http://webserver/share ; (Web share)
3. ftp://mysite.co.uk (ftp site)

The address I would like to add is: http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk

When I try to input http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk ; it returns "the
folder you entered does not appear to be valid, please choose another".

Instructions from Microsoft:
If your domain hosting account has FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE)
installed you can upload your web site files in the HTTP Protocol. When FPSE
is loaded on your account it is recommended that you use HTTP uploads
exclusively because using FTP at any time may corrupt the FPSE files.

You must understand that the server processing functionality provided by
FPSE requires HTTP publishing to deliver that functionality.

For example if you have a web page form in your Publisher web publication
that form will only be functional on the server if it's published in HTTP.
Publisher uses FPSE to deliver the processing functionality to Publisher web
forms. So if you designed a web form in your web publication you then need to
have FPSE installed (that's a host support function) and you have to publish
the web publication in the HTTP protocol.

I have the http address & login details from my server, i just can't connect
in http as network connections will not allow me to input the address, is
ther another way with vista similar to my network connections in XP.

I am presently uploading in ftp as a stop gap to get it on the web, but need
this response form to work, which it has done in the past with (XP) but i
cannot find away to point my site to my server with the address
http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk

I have all the info required once the connection is made to upload, but do
not understand why i just cannot input any address in a new connection

I am enjoying the Vista experience, but am struggling with the
subject!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Richard, i see where you are coming from however i am now in to the rights &
wrongs of ftp in Vista general disscussion, some where i don't want to be.

I am new to Vista, and i have a basic understanding of web design, i posted
a straightforward question to a problem i am having with creating a
connection to my server in http.

My ref has come from Microsoft, which has told me what i need to do, i just
don't know how to do it in Vista, XP i was ok.

I am pushing this subject as i am enjoying all that is new with Vista and i
wish to stick with it, i do not want to go back to XP, if there weren't
problems in life that didn't need solving then we wouldn't go forward and
learn.

If anyone can help a novice then i would be grateful of any advice, always
willing to try anything once.

I see the examples do include service specifiers http: and ftp:, which
blows out the suggestion I was going to make - that perhaps the
address field accepts only path info, with the service specified
somewhere else (Settings, other UI checkboxes or drop-downs in the
same dialog, etc.).

That wording is what prompted my suggestion. Does
ftp://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk work, or do you have to use
breladecockerspaniels.co.uk ? If using http: to FP extensions, do you
have to specify some sort of subdirectory, e.g.
http://breladecockerspaniels.co.uk/fpextensions or
http://fpextensions.breladecockerspaniels.co.uk or something?

Don't you hate it when you get locked into some proprietary "solution"
that turns out more difficult to use than the standards it is designed
to gloss over? Like all that cameraware that hides the fact that your
camera is really just a generic storage device?

What happens if you try this through a web browser, such as IE? That
would seem the most logical interface for http...

As I mentioned, "http://" and "ftp://" are not addresses, they are
service specifiers. If your app has already "decided" what service to
use and expects just an address, these could throw it off.

Or there may be a setting elsewhere that either blocks http, or is
where http vs. ftp is selected.

I don't use FP extensions, so I can't tell you much more than that.

If you are pitching for visitors on dial-up and/or restrictive
security settings, you should test your MS Office-spawned pages from
these environments to assess "bloat" and "buzz" (e.g. do the pages
permission to run active content in order to load?)

MS Office is mired in the "pixel-perfect" DTP mindset, which is great
when you're outputting paper, but a PITA when it comes to slowly
downloading web pages to be displayed on who-knows-what sort of web
browser or total available display size.

I have managed to resolve the problem with the following download, which now
allows me to input an http address in to add a new network connection.

There is an issue with the lack of inbuilt support for WebDAV in Vista.
This download will help:

Have a look, you may understand more why this is an issue in Vista.

....in response to which, I fed back the following:

I reached this page from a download page that was also for Vista,
which is not mentioned in this article. This article speaks of
"2005", so it's hard to see how this describes 2007 Vista. There's
also no answer on why an extra download is required for Vista.... the
dots just aren't joining up, here?
